Portmore coming for the title - East

Playing against Cavalier on Sunday, a strong attacking team, which had not conceded a single goal in their last five games, Portmore United had a blockade to get through if they wanted to make their third consecutive Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) final. Playing on home turf was the advantage they had that could have turned out to be not so advantageous, as Cavalier seemed to prefer road matches of late.

The home team needed to be firing on all cylinders, and that they did, but none more so than their top marksman Jovan East. East put in his performance of the season so far, striking twice in a 3-0 scoreline, to secure passage into the finals, where they will face Waterhouse, who got by defending champions Arnett Gardens.

The striker, who had been on a barren run since February, turned up when it mattered to fire his team into the finals, and said that he was very happy about his performance.

"I feel great scoring two goals, especially seeing I haven't scored since I travelled to Turkey with the national team. Portmore scored and won, so I am very happy and looking forward to playing in the finals," East expressed.

East said his recent resurgence is simply a result of the work he has been putting in training, which is now being reflected on the pitch.

REGAINED CONFIDENCE

"Well, I have regained my focus and confidence by the work I am doing in training, scoring lots of goals and training very well, putting in that extra effort at both ends of the pitch and it has paid off with my two goals against Cavalier," East.

The striker said this was a statement made by himself and his team to signal their intentions and what is expected to come in the final.

"Yes, I always want to cause problems for my opponents. Winners win games with the work they put in off the pitch. We came here to play football and dominate, which is what we did and what we are looking to do in the final," the striker said.

East, who now has 15 goals for the season, sits two goals behind the league's top scorer, Craig Foster, said he is focused on the most important prize up for grabs, the Premier League crown. However, he insists he will not pass up the opportunities if they come to top the goalscoring charts.

"Well, I am most definitely focused on Portmore United's objective of winning the title, but if I get the chance to overtake then I will make sure to take that chance," East concluded.
