Allen, Bloomfield storm into NCAA 400m final

Jamaica's Akeem Bloomfield and Nathon Allen, competing for the University of Auburn, won  their 400  metres semi-finals tonight at the NCAA Division 1 Championships in Eugene, Oregon. 
 

Competing in Heat Two, Allen won in 44.83 seconds to advance as the fourth fastest qualifier for Friday's final. In the following heat Bloomfield went close to his personal best of 44.70  as he stopped the clock at 44.72 to be the third fastest to advance.
 

Twenty-year-old American Michael Norman of the University of Southern California is the fastest qualifier. He won his heat in  44.66 ahead of Tyrell Richard of South Carolina State 44.70. All eight finalists have gone under 45 seconds.
 

Three other Jamaicans,  Kemar Mowatt, Raheem Chambers and Damion Thomas, also advanced to Friday's finals.
 

Competing for the University of Arkansas,  Mowatt win his 400m hurdles semi-final in 49.98 to move forward as the fifth best qualifier.
 

Sprint hurdler Damion Thomas competing for Louisiana  State University, was a close second in his semi-final of the men's 110m hurdles in 13.44 seconds. He has the fourth fastest time.
 

Former St Jago High sprinter Chambers of  Auburn is through to the 100m final. He  clocked a wind-aided 10.05 seconds (wind 2.3 mps) in finishing third. Andre Ewars of Florida State won the heat in 10.00 to advance as the fastest qualifier.  Waseem Williams, competing for Purdue University, finished fifth in Chambers' heat in 10.07 and did not advance.
