Pan Am Handgun Champs to close in blazing action
JAMAICA's top pistol shooters and their international rivals go head-to-head today at the Jamaica Rifle Association's Mountain View headquarters after five exciting days of action in the 7th Pan Am Handgun Championship.
With the main match out of the way - two days at Woodleigh, Clarendon, and three days at Mountain View - which resulted in Jamaica's Lesgar Speedy' Murdock winning the Open Division and countryman Andrew 'Wasp' Yapp finishing second to 11-time Canadian champion, Michael Burrell, in the Standard division, individual bragging rights are on the line in head-to-head match-ups.
Dubbed 'Nerves of Steel', the shoot-off will see the top eight shooters from their respective divisions in the main match competing two at a time, on one stage, engaging the same targets in a preliminary, semi-final and final format.
"This promises to be a thrilling finish to the Pan-Am Championships because you're going to have guys who might not have done so well, for one reason or another, when placed on squads in the main match but will now have a lot to prove, one-on-one," explained Andrew Gardner, acting president, Jamaica Rifle Association.
Top Jamaican Production shooter, Ryan Bramwell, could come face-to-face with German Romitelli of Argentina, who won that division in the main match ahead of Casey Reid of the United States and Canada's Alexandre Berdaty, as well as 14-year-old Justine Williams of the United States.
Meanwhile, Murdock could face the Argentine pair of Daniel Minaglia and Martin Balbi, second and third, respectively, in the main match, or possibly United States Grand Master Frank Garcia.
Similar to the main match, the cost for entry is $1,000, start time 9 a.m.
