Thirty-eight year-old midfielder Jermaine 'Teddy' Johnson says that he plans to use all his experience to assist Tivoli Gardens in their bid to win next season's Red Stripe Premier League title.

Johnson told The Gleaner that despite his age, he is in great shape as he has been doing a lot of work in the gym.

"I don't feel like my age because I have been working and doing the right things to keep my body fit," said Johnson.

Age just a number

"Age is just a number right now because when I was 36, I was the leading goal scorer , and so I just need to keep my body fit and stay focused and be positive this season," said Johnson, while adding that the spirits in the team are very high and everyone was looking forward to a very productive season.

"The expectation is always high for Tivoli Gardens whether we have a good team or a bad team," he said. "The fans are always looking out for something special, and so we just need to stay focused this year and come out and execute in each game," Johnson said.

Tivoli reached the quarterfinals of last season's competition, where they were knocked out by Cavalier.

However, Johnson, who has recovered from a knee injury that affected him most of last season, said that they are a very strong unit and he would be playing his part to ensure that the team achieves its objectives this season.

"I know that I still can lead them with my experience, and so I am just going out there to help the players to do the best that they can and just be a leader in this team," Johnson, who netted five goals last season, said.

"But it is going to be hard to win the title, but we just have to be positive and be focused and listen to what the coach says and just do whatever we can to get this title," Johnson stated.
