Top three places in Zurich for Goule, Russell

National record holder Natoya Goule and Commonwealth Games champion Janieve Russell topped off their 2018 seasons with third place finishes in their respective events at the Diamond League final in Zurich yesterday.

Goule, who lowered her national record to 1:56.15 at the Monaco leg of the Diamond League circuit on July 20, managed 1:58.49 behind world champion Caster Semenya of South Africa 1:55.27 and American Ajee Wilson 1:57.86.

Russell was beaten by the American pair of Dalilah Muhammad, 53.88 seconds, and Shamier Little 54.21. The MVP athlete registered 54.38.

Triple jumpers Shanieka Ricketts and Kimberly Williams also produced good performances with their second and third place finishes in the event. Ricketts lost by a centimetre to Olympic and World champion Caterine Ibarguen.

Best Jump

The Colombian's best jump was 14.56m while Rickets got 14.55m. Williams, the Commonwealth Games champion, managed 14.47m.

Tajay Gayle, who also had a fairly good season, finished fourth in the men's long jump with 8.15 metres.

World champion Luvo Manyonga of South Africa won the event on his final attempt with 8.36 metres ahead of his compatriot Rushwahl Samaai who had a best jump 8.32m.

Kyron McMaster of the British Virgin Islands won the men's 400m hurdles in 48.08 seconds. World champion Karsten Warholm of Norway was second in 48.10 while Yasmani Copello of Turkey took third in 48.73.

The highlight of the day came from American speedster Noah Lyles who registered his third sub 19.7 run of the season in the men's 200m to win the event. Lyles stopped the clock at 19.67 seconds. World champion Ramil Guliyev of Turkey clocked 19.98 for second while Trinidad and Tobago's Jareem Richards grabbed third place with 20.04.

The women's 100m went to Ivorian Murille Ahoure in 11.01. British record holder Dina Asher-Smith was second in 11.08 and Marie Josee Ta Lou, also from Cote d'Ivoire, was third in 11.10.
