Dacres poised for Diamond Trophy win
Discus world leader Fedrick Dacres will lead eight Jamaicans into battle on Day Two of the Diamond League finals today.
Action moves to Brussels in Belgium, and Dacres will be joined by Ronald Levy and Hansle Parchment (110mh), Yohan Blake (100m), Stephenie Ann McPherson (400m), Danielle Williams (100m hurdles), Aisha Praught (3,000m Steeplechase) and Shericka Jackson (200m).
Dacres, who has had a fantastic season, tops the world with 69.67m, which he achieved at the Stockholm meet in June. He will be hoping to give Jamaica the first Diamond Trophy of the finals when he begins competition at 12:40 p.m.
Commonwealth Games champion Levy, and NACAC gold medallist Hansle Parchment, will be involved in what should be a cracking men's 110m hurdles where any number can play. The field also includes world leader, Authorised Neutral Athlete Sergey Shubenkov, Devon Allen of the United States, Spain's Orlando Ortega and European champion Pascal Martinot-Lagarde of France.
Former world champion Blake will also be involved in a hot men's 100m. Americans Ronnie Baker and Christian Coleman are expected to fight for top spot.
In the women's 200m Shericka Jackson will be aiming to top off a good season with a win in the half-lap race, but she will have to get by Bahamian, Shaunae Miller-Uibo who has been red-hot in the event this season and will start favourite for the Diamond Trophy. Also down to contest the event are American Jenna Prandini and Dafne Schippers of The Netherlands.
