St Andrew Technical High school's (STATHS) standout goalkeeper, Jaedin White, thinks this year's team is just as good as last season's and is confident that they will have a successful schoolboy football campaign.

White, while admitting that the team does include a high number of inexperienced players, believes that his own experience, both at the international level and at the Red Stripe Premier League, will be crucial to their chances as they look to go one better than their final appearance last season.

"The quality of this team is not far from what we had last year. The only thing that might be a factor is their age, being that these players are very young, as a lot of them are coming from under-16," White told The Gleaner.

"But they have what it takes to deliver. They just need a lot of mental strength and maturity, and my experience will play a vital role in this team, because as I said, the team is young and developing, and I am a person, who has (been a member of ) the senior national team overseas, so I have that experience, and I know what it takes. So me being behind them is a big plus for them, and it helps boost their confidence," White noted.

TOUGHEST GAME

So far this season, STATHS has won three and drawn two of their five Group A matches, scoring 14 times and conceding just twice and the reliable 'shot stopper' who made about five match-defining saves in their 1 - 1 top-of-the-table clash with St George's College on Tuesday, said that that game has been his toughest this campaign.

"This (St George's) is the most troubling game I have played this season. Every other game, my team has controlled. It's as if I am not even there, and they always do what they have to do and get the job done at the end of the day, and we believe we can do it," he added.

St Andrew currently sits on 11 points from five games, two less than St George's, who leads the group with 13 points. They will next host Tarrant on Saturday, with St George's College travelling to Cumberland in their next assignment, also set for Saturday.
