Camperdown High will be seeking to confirm their spot in the second round of the ISSA/Digicel Manning Cup Football competition today when they go up against Eltham High at Alpha Boys Home.

The East Kingston-based school has been dominating Group C having won four of the five matches they have contested while only conceding one goal. Assistant coach Shavon Byfield, however, told The Gleaner yesterday that his side is taking the encounter seriously as they want to cement their spot in the second round of the competition to provide them with enough time to fine-tune their style of play.

"Tomorrow's game is important because we want to get qualification to the second round out of the way so we can concentrate on playing better," Byfield said. "We still haven't played the football we want to play in terms of our transitioning from defence to offence."

He continued: "We want the team to be moving around the ball quicker and I think if we can get that running then we will be fine."

Camperdown's toughest test came against Charlie Smith in their last home game as they were held to a goalless draw.

"We have not had a good showing at our home field as yet so we are looking to do that tomorrow ( today) as well," Byfield said.

Eltham also have everything to play for as they are in a race with Charlie Smith for the group's runner-up position.

Camperdown are clear at the top with 16 points while Charlie Smith hold the runner-up spot with 11 points and Eltham three points behind.
