Wolmer's Boys clip tough Holy Trinity

After watching his side grind out their fourth victory in the ISSA/Digicel Manning Cup competition yesterday, coach of Wolmer's Boys, Alex Thomas, believes his side has the mental stability to make another deep run in the competition.

The boys from Heroes Circles capitalised on the chances they created to eke out a 2-1 victory over Holy Trinity High at the Bell Chung Oval.

Revaldo Mitchell broke the deadlock on the stroke of half-time for Wolmer's, but Phillon Lawrence restored parity for Holy Trinity with a volley from top of the 18-yard box in the 67th minute. And after staving off a wave of attacks from Holy Trinity, Clayon Haynes made sure that Wolmer's grabbed all three points with a header in the 73rd minute.

"Holy Trinity are a very good team, and they were able to break us down defensively on too many occasions," Thomas said. "They put us on the back foot, but the boys withstood the pressure, held their nerve, and we came out victorious in the end."

He continued: "The thing about this Wolmer's team is that we are mentally strong, and I really like that about our boys. We are able to withstand pressure and able to grind out victories very well."

Holy Trinity's coach, Devon Anderson blamed his team's loss on poor officiating.

"The results are not going to show a reflection of the game when calls have been made consistently. Sometimes we wonder why we play these games. We should just give the opposing team the three points because they seem to have something against us," Anderson lamented.

Despite his frustrations, Anderson believes that their display suggests that they can advance to the latter stages of the competition.

"On a level playing field, any day, we can play against anyone and give a good showing," Anderson said.

Wolmer's are now four clear at the top of Group G with 19 points while Holy Trinity still hold the second position with 15.
