Intriguing final day looms at Travel Agents Golf

AN intriguing final-day play looms in the sixth Latin American Travel Agents golf tournament with no overall leader declared after nine holes at the Sandals Golf and Country Club in Upton, Exchange, St Ann.

Instead of the traditional four-man scramble in which the 20 teams would each start at different holes on the front nine, the organisers pulled a 'flip', splitting the players between the front and back nine, resulting in two leaders on either side of the clubhouse, heading into this morning's play.

Leading the front nine on 36 are defending champions Costa Rica, Team 2, comprising Amarie Serrano, Carlos Pina, Juan Riviera and Sonia Oquendo.

Team 2 hold a one-stroke lead over Team 4's Jose David Naves, Sonia Reyes and Osman. Hot on their heels are Panama's Team 6, Francisco Lopez, Blanca, Homero Cana and Laura Fernandez, who shot 38.

18A Raring to go

Meanwhile, the back nine leaders, Team 18A, are champing at their bits for a go on the other side of the clubhouse after putting up a score of 31, three strokes clear of Team 13.

A mixed group, Team 18A comprises Silvia Munoz, Gazton Volantezio, Rodrigo Gimenez and Pablo Wolinsky, representing Chile and Argentina.

Team 13, representing Chile, shot 34 on the back nine, represented by Andres Morales, Alain Giroux, Claudio Torres and Andres Vicuna.

Rounding off the top three on the back nine and looking forward to the flip today are Team 10, representing Panama, whose Team 6 is also third on the front nine. Team 10 comprises Alberta Osuna, Jorge Alegre, Andres Montanez and T Stanton, who shot 36.

At the end of yesterday's first day, the travel agents made a community stop at the Pineapple Basic School in Ocho Rios where more than 100 backpacks stacked with school supplies were handed out to students.

Principal Leone Golding was very elated and expressed appreciation, thanking the travel agents for the generous donation and Sandals Foundation for their continued support.
