A confident Sunshine Girls unit will take on Caribbean rivals Trinidad and Tobago in their opening match of their two-Test series at National Indoor Sports Centre today. Match time is 5 p.m.

The Marvette Anderson-coached Sunshine Girls are ranked fourth in the world, six places above Trinidad and Tobago, and should be too strong for the Eastern Caribbean country.

The local girls, who won the bronze medal at this year's Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia, will parade a very powerful squad for the series. The players include captain Jhaniele Fowler-Reid, who is rated as one of the best goal shooters in the world. Also in the Sunshine Girls team are outstanding defenders Shamera Sterling, Vangelee Williams, and Stacian Facey. The midcourt will be led by the experienced pair of Khadijah Williams and Adean Thomas.

The Sunshine Girls will also battle England in a three-Test home series following the conclusion of the Trinidad series. The England Roses flew into Jamaica last Friday.

Jamaica's captain, Fowler-Reid, said that the Sunshine Girls are looking forward to both series.

"Both series are very important to us as not only will they help us to develop new players, they will also help us to see where we are at this time, especially in our battle against England, the second-ranked team in the world."
