Lights back at Seaga Complex

Chairman of Tivoli Gardens FC, Edward Seaga, says they have spent more than $6 million on major improvement work on the Edward Seaga Sports Complex, including the reinstallation of lights at the facility.

With new lighting in place, Tivoli will host their first night match in three years on Wednesday against Humble Lion FC.

"We have settled the dispute we had with JPS (Jamaica Public Service) and so we are able to get back lights for the first time in three years," Seaga said. "We also worked on the field. We put in a new irrigation system, we didn't have enough irrigation in the past and we put that in with two additional tanks and piping and sprinklers and we rolled the field and now it is truly beautiful."

He continued: "It is really beautiful especially when the lights are turned on because the lights we have installed are high-tech LED bulbs."

More improvements coming

Seaga, in his capacity as president of the Premier League Clubs Association (PLCA), said there are plans to improve the quality of football pitches across the league.

"We are hoping to improve at least two fields each season," Seaga said. "Most of the fields in Kingston are good but the truth about it is some the fields can't be improved because they shouldn't be playing on any at all," Seaga said.

The former Prime Minister said that fans can expect a great experience when they turn up to the Edward Seaga Stadium Complex.

"The field is nice and grassy and clean and the fans will love to watch that too," Seaga said.

Tivoli Gardens are sitting in third position in the Red Stripe Premier League tables and Seaga is hoping the improvement to the field will inspire the players to continue to do well.

"We lost a couple of games we should have won so we had to talk to them last night and I told them we have to win against Portmore United this weekend," Seaga said.
