The third staging of the Jamaica Classic for gymnastics is scheduled for this weekend at the National Indoor Sports Centre, and president of the Jamaica Amateur Gymnastics Association (JAGA) Nicole Grant-Brown said over 600 gymnasts are down to compete.

The competition, which is organised by the Jamaica School of Gymnastics and the association, starts today and will feature the Corporate Region Championships and the National Junior Development Trials.

"Over 70 schools are set to participate from kindergarten, preparatory and primary schools, and there will be an element of club championship in it as well," said Grant-Brown.

The schools are going for bragging rights to become the Corporate Area champions.

"The top five schools from each category will qualify for the National Championship in May of next year," Grant-Brown added.

According to the JAGA president, an all-star team will be selected to represent their schools at the Caribbean Championships, which is slated to be held in Trinidad and Tobago next year.

For the National Junior Development Trials, the top three in each level will be selected to represent the country at two upcoming championships in the United States and Canada.

The Jamaica Classic will end tomorrow.
