Christmas 2013, a memorable one for 400m hurdles star

CHRISTMAS is a time for giving and it might be for this reason why Janieve Russell’s most memorable Christmas is the one where she gave the most.

The 2018 Commonwealth Games 400 metres hurdles champion said Christmas 2013 will forever be etched in her mind as she, her sister and mother offered Christmas dinner to their extended family and members of her community, Hopeton District in Mandeville, Manchester, that year.

“It was my first Christmas going back home from college and my mom and sister said we should have a big Christmas dinner so we baked, cooked and invited my aunts, cousins and even some members of the community,” she recalled. “We ate outside while we chatted, laughed and when my aunts were leaving we made sure that they had cakes. It was really fun.”

She continued: “We have not been able to meet like that since then because my mother is now living abroad so that is probably why it is so memorable.”

Russell is a Hotel Resort and Management major at The University of Technology and is expected to graduate in Spring of next year.
