MBU need 25 more points - Ambusley

Montego Bay United (MBU) player-coach Dwayne Ambusley is hoping Sunday's 1-0 victory over Mount Pleasant FA in the Red Stripe Premier League will change their momentum as they look to stave off relegation. The win ended a five-game losing streak.

Despite the win, MBU remain rooted at the foot of the table on 19 points, same as 11th-place Dunbeholde,n and two points adrift of Reno in 10th.

Converting from the penalty spot in the second minute of play, Orlando McBayne scored the lone goal of another exciting display of football against the St Ann- based outfit.

Ambusley believes the hype surrounding the game is what led to MBU playing their best brand of football when up against Mount Pleasant.

"What we have been asking our team for is that every week we bring a game like this," he said. "For some reason, we haven't been doing that. However, I hope this is the turning point of something good to come with the rest of the games this season.

"Sometimes when we come out to play, we are just not good enough on the day. But we minimised the mistakes we were making at the back against a good Mount Pleasant team that posed a more demanding attack than most of the teams we play. However, somehow, we coped with it," he added.

Ambusley believes MBU have to get it right for the fans who never gave up on them, and said they are targeting at least 25 points from their remaining 12 games this season.

"It's just the heart of the team. We kind of get what we call in Jamaican terms, 'tired of losing'. It's frustrating when you walk on the street every day and someone's asking what happened to the team," he said.

"The people have the team at heart and they are feeling it just like us. We know we have western Jamaica at heart and the people we come out to represent each week," he added.

"We have to try to maximise the remaining points. We have 36 points to play for, we have to get at least a minimum of 25 from it."
