Away win delights Mount Pleasant's assistant coach

Mount Pleasant's assistant coach, Nigel Stewart, has heaped praise on his team after a 2-0 away win over fellow-promoted side Dunbeholden in the Red Stripe Premier League competition at Royal Lakes field yesterday.

Shaquille Notice (35th) and Kemar Beckford (80th) were the scorers for Mount Pleasant. The victory lifted the St Ann-based team from fifth to fourth on 33 points. Dunbeholden remain second from bottom on 19 points.

Stewart hailed his team for a satisfactory performance.

"It was a workman-like performance. We have had problems getting goals ,and we got two in this match and I am happy for that," said Stewart. He added that the three points earned were crucial in the quest to secure a spot in the playoffs.

Early domination

Mount Pleasant dominated the early exchanges with the speedy and skilful Cardel Bendow tormenting the Dunbeholden defenders with his dribbling skills and off-the-ball movement. However, the winners had to wait until the 35th minute to take the lead when Notice arrived at the near post to head a free kick, taken by Ladale Richie, past goalkeeper Eric Edwards. Narado Brown then came close to scoring the equaliser for Dunbeholden on the stroke of half time but his powerful shot from 12-yards was well saved by goalkeeper Kadeen Davis.

The winners dominated the second stanza and wrapped up the victory when Beckford tapped home a cross from Devon Hodges with ten minutes remaining in the game.

Meanwhile Riegel Smith coach of Dunbleholden said his team was second best in most areas of the field.

"We started off a bit slow and I thought that our transition from midfield to attack was a bit too slow. We thus gave up too much space and the Mount Pleasant team took full advantage of this," said Smith.
