Jamaica’s Reggae Girlz gave their local fans much to cheer for, in a solid 3-1 win over Panama, in their final home game ahead of their FIFA Women’s World Cup debut in France next month.

Hotshot striker Khadija Shaw was, as always, the main destroyer for the Jamaicans, bagging a brace and setting up the other, as the Girlz secured another positive result ahead of their Women’s World Cup campaign.

The Jamaicans were first on the scoresheet in the 29th minute, when the talismanic Shaw rifled a shot into the back of the net, after a right side corner forced a scramble in the Panamanian penalty area.

Shaw doubled the advantage in the 63rd minute, getting on the end of a deep cross from Dominique Blond-Flasza, to send the 15,000 or so fans in the National Stadium into celebration.

The visitors got themselves back into the contest after a mix-up between substitute goalkeeper Nicole McClure and a defender, after both went for the same ball, clashed into each other and leaving an empty net for Panama’s skipper Natalia Mills to tap into.

However, the Jamaicans slammed the door shut on the Central Americans and again, with a third goal in the 78th minute and again Shaw was at the centre of things.

Shaw picked up the ball in the right channel, skipping past her marker with her first touch before playing a pass into the box, setting it on a platter for veteran striker Shakira Duncan, who finished calmly underneath the onrushing Panama goalkeeper, Yenith Bailey.

The Jamaicans who, of course, famously defeated Panama to book their place at the FIFA World Cup in the Concacaf Women’s Championship third place play-off late last year, will now face Scotland on May 27 in a warm-up match in Scotland before getting their World Cup campaign started on June 9 against Brazil.

They will also play Australia and Italy in their other Group C commitments.
