FIFA Women's World Cup | Legend Vincent expects positive Reggae Girlz against Brazil

GRENOBLE, France:

Former Reggae Girlz standout Tashana Vincent, here in France as one of FIFA’s ‘ambassadors' for the Women’s World Cup, says she is expecting the Jamaicans to pick up a positive result from giants Brazil in their Group C opener at the Stade des Alpes on Sunday.

Vincent, who made her debut for the national senior team as a 14 year-old and went on to be named the top female footballer in the Caribbean in 2007, says the Girlz have a good opportunity to advance from a tough group that also includes world number 6 ranked Australia and number 15 positioned Italy, as long as they don’t leave Grenoble empty handed on Sunday.

“We gear up idolising the Brazilian culture, so it’s a great experience and I think because we grew up idolising their culture, the game today will be really exciting because I think the teams will be playing the same style, so let’s see who masters that he most,” Vincent said before the start of the match.

The absence of iconic Brazilian striker Marta, who has not recovered fully from a left thigh injury sustained late last month, was highlighted as another factor in the favour of the Jamaicans.

“Honestly, I think we can come out of this group. Today’s game, I think we can get something from it. They (Brazil) are ageing and their star player Marta is out, so this is the perfect opportunity to get something from the game and as long as we get something from today’s game, I think we can go through,” the former Number 9 added.

In the group’s other game, Juventus striker Barbara Bonansea struck twice to hand Italy a 2-1 win over group favourites Australia in Valenciennes.
