Princess Ava, I Am Di One hand Nunes exacta

LEADING trainer Anthony notched a pair of exactas yesterday to push his earnings past $13m over perennial rival, reigning 17-time champion Wayne DaCosta.

Nunes’ Jamaica Oaks runners-up, PRINCESS AVA and I AM DI ONE, won their respective route events on the 10-race card, chased home by stablemates, BIG BANG and DONTAE.

Running against non-winners-of-two-races at 10 furlongs after finishing second in the Oaks, PRINCESS AVA chased DYNA’S PRIDE entering the backstretch, before taking over three furlongs out, and romped to a nine-and-a-half length win apprentice Reyan Lewis, clocking 2:10.0

I AM DI ONE, who had finished third in last month’s Oaks as a 1-5 favourite, faced older horses in an overnight allowance event at nine furlongs and 25 yards.

The big filly pulled champion jockey Anthony Thomas to the lead entering the backstretch but was joined by PAKMAN, who pressed her to the home turn.

Running with a featherweight 110lb, I AM DI ONE pulled away from PAKMAN but had to be ridden out by Thomas for a two-and-a-quarter length win in 1:58.3 ahead of DONTAE, who came forward a furlong out amid a wall of horses to snatch second by a neck.

Lewis’ victory astride PRINCESS AVA moved him to 40 wins, six behind his peer, leading rider Christopher Mamdeen, who went winless on the programme.

Apprentice Tevin Foster rode a two-timer, UNCLE WAL in the third and 11-1 upsetter, WILLODEEN, in the sixth.
