Trinidadian sprinter Michelle-Lee Ahye has been arrested and charged in the United States for an alleged domestic assault.

Court Documents say Ahye was arrested and charged in Round Rock, Texas, on June 20, with the assault occasioning actual bodily harm with the alleged victim being her wife, Chelsea Renee.

Ahye, 27 years old, claimed there was a "smear campaign" against her after the Trinidad Guardian newspaper displayed photos from her social media accounts with her and a female friend. This was after she won gold in the women's 100m final of the Commonwealth Games in Australia in April last year.

Her response to the publication said "“Do something good for the country...and they still find a way to be negative...smh Trinidadians”.
