Emerson Henry back at Rusea’s

Emerson ‘Diggy’ Henry, who has lead Rusea’s High School to multiple ISSA/WATA DaCosta Cup titles, is back at the helm of the 11-time ­champions as technical director.

Henry said his return is more of a supporting role to coach Dwayne Ambusley, who assisted former head coach Vassell Reynolds.

“Basically, I came in because the other coach (Reynolds) had left,” Henry said. “They wanted to give Dwayne the job as coach and I agreed with them, but also, they wanted someone with experience to stand beside him. That’s what I am doing; so most of the work, it’s Dwayne and Phillip Wong doing it. I’m just giving some guidance.

“Training has been going well, although it could be better. Right now we don’t really know what the other teams are like, so we like our chances.”

GREAT EXPECTATIONS

Henry believes that despite having a fairly young squad this year, Rusea’s will be putting their best foot forward as they have great expectations to live up to.

“We have retained quite a number of players, but we have a lot of under-16 players moving up, some of who can still play for the under-16 team. However, this is Rusea’s, so we always try to play good football and see where it takes us,” he said.

Rusea’s will start their 2019 DaCosta Cup campaign against Merlene Ottey High School at home, at the Colin Miller Sports Complex, today at 3:30 p.m.
