Nervous STETHS edge Maggotty
Western Bureau:
Coach of St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) Omar ‘Rambo’ Wedderburn, who admitted that he was nervous before and throughout the game, was a relieved man as his team carved out a close 1-0 win over Maggotty at a wet Appleton Sports Complex yesterday.
Jedaughni Coleman netted STETHS’ lone goal in the 75th minute to ease the pressure when it appeared the rural powerhouses were heading towards an unfavourable start to their season.
“The result is excellent. I have to give them credit because it’s the first game and we had a lot of jitters. I myself was very nervous from last night because we wanted to get the three points. This is our first game, in comparison to Maggotty’s second,” Wedderburn said.
“We talked about it in our team meeting last night – that it doesn’t matter the scoreline, the three points are very important. I know it’s the rainy time in the parish, so we not going to blame any condition; we knew what to expect. If you notice, we came with a plan not to play through the middle of the pitch,” he added.
“I think the boys fought hard, and Maggotty gave off a good performance, and their goalkeeper was exceptional. Game management was key today, and if you notice, today, we pushed in some youngsters. We introduced a 14-year-old in Chadrick Hendricks, and things like that make the difference as we want them to get some experience.”
Xavier Hendricks coach of Maggotty said he was a bit disappointed in not capitalising on the nerves of STETHS in taking maximum points. He is, however, looking forward to the upcoming game after yesterday’s fairly good performance despite the result.
“I think we started the game well. We know this was the first game for STETHS and they would be a bit nervous and under pressure. In the latter parts of the game, we eased up a bit, giving them too much room to play, and that got them into the game ..., but I thought we played well, and we are just looking forward to the rest of games this round,” Hendricks said.
