CC drop points after a goalkeeper error

Another dismal performance from last season’s finalists Cornwall College (CC), saw them drop points at home after a goalkeeper error saw them being held 1-1 by Green Pond High School in Group A ISSA/WATA daCosta Cup action yesterday.CC took the lead in the 30th minute when Kamali Powell latched on to a brilliant cross from right-back Kaheem Allen.

Green Pond capitalised on CC’s gaffe in the 73rd minute to equalise after goalkeeper Peter Sinclair stayed on his line when Kevon Lewis flicked on a pass over the defence and recovered to pass it into the back of the net.

Dr Dean Weatherly, coach of Cornwall College said the goalkeeper’s error was unfortunately but underlined that they are looking to move on from this game and get better.

“We discussed it with him that he has to make a decision from early. If he had fully committed to coming off his line, I think the result would have been different,” Weatherly said.

“I think we have to go back to the drawing board, right back to basics. We had problems in terms of the off-the-ball movement. We have to bring up the concentration level. I don’t think we concentrated enough. However, it’s early days with a young team, so these are things we will work on as we go along,” he added.

Gregory Daley, coach of Green Pond, said although they were a bit disappointed in not getting all three points, he was grateful to get a point away to CC.

“We came for the three points but I don’t think the boys settled early enough.

The game went to plan. Cornwall did what was expected. If not for our blunder, we could have all three points.

Nonetheless, it’s a good result away from home although we wanted all three. As it is, we have to be satisfied with the point,” Daley said.
