St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) captain Antonio Biggs says he is confident of ending his team’s three-year trophy drought in the ISSA/WATA daCosta Cup.

Despite a 1-1 draw with rivals Munro College on Saturday, Biggs said that STETHS are better prepared to deal with pressure this season.

“It’s very tough, but from [the start of the] season, we train under pressure, so myself and the team know how to deal with it when it comes,” he said. “To know that [we are] used to winning, and for the last three years, we [haven’t won] anything is tough. However, this year, we are going to make a difference, and because it’s my last year, I want to make an impact.

“The pressure is on the team, not just me. Yes, I have my own little pressure, but eventually, it’s on the team. If we lose a game, people won’t say it’s the defender lost, but the team, and if we win, they are going to say the team, so it’s all on the team.”

Biggs said that despite a defensive mix-up between himself and teammate Sijay Cole that lead to the goal conceded on Saturday, his defensive players have great confidence in each other and are just looking to get better as the competition continues.

“I wouldn’t say it’s easy, but because we are playing since preseason and I got used to my teammates, it’s much better. They always come to my aid as well, which makes it even easier. I also feel that if we continue working on getting stronger as a unit, we will be just fine,” Biggs said.

“We are training to be confident in each other. At any given time, if someone makes a mistake, myself or someone else will always be there to cover and make it seems as if there is no mistake.”
