Canada crush Reggae Girlz 9-0 in Olympic qualifying
Jamaica's senior women's football team is out of contention for a spot at this summer's Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan. The Reggae Girlz were beaten 9-0 by world number eight ranked Canada in Concacaf qualifying in Edinburg, Texas on Saturday evening.
Jordyn Huitema got the punishment for the Girlz started in the 10th minute of the game. It was all downhill from there, as she added four more goals to her tally on the night. Janine Beckie also took home a match ball, after claiming three goals. Deanne Rose was the other scorer for the Canadians.
Jamaica now sit third in the four-team group on no points behind Canada and Mexico who have already advanced with six points apiece from their two wins. They meet each other for group supremacy on Tuesday while the Hubert Busby Jr-coached Jamaicans will look to salvage pride against bottom-placed St Kitts and Nevis at the same venue. The Kittitians are also without a point but their -17 goal difference, puts them below Jamaica who have -10.
Mexico defeated St Kitts 6-0 in the earlier game on the day.
