Former national and Waterhouse midfielder Irvino English was shot in his community in St Andrew on Wednesday evening.

The Gleaner understands that English was on Ashoka Road, Waterhouse when a lone gunman exited a car and shot him multiple times in his upper body. English was then taken to the Kingston Public Hospital. The Jamaica Constabulary Force's Corporate Communications Unit could not yet provide further details of the incident and his condition is still unclear at this time.

English, 42 years old, represented Jamaica’s senior men’s team on five occasions between 2001 and 2002. One of these was in a FIFA World Cup Qualifying match.

He has since embarked on a coaching career where he has worked as a member of David Lalor’s coaching staff at Wolmer’s Boys School, and now with current Wolmer’s coach Alex Thomas as his assistant coach.
