The Jamaica Racing Commission (JRC) has postponed this Saturday's race meet at Caymanas Park due to the lack of entries.

Clovis Metcalfe, chairman of the JRC, said the meet has been moved to next Wednesday and this was result of a mysterious virus which has been affecting the horses at the track.

"It is nothing new because it has happened in the past and the horses have gotten better within a couple of days," Metcalfe said.

"The virus is something that you can't really pin exactly what it is, but what we can tell is that the horses are eating, but they are running some temperature of a 103 to 104 degrees," he said. "But we know that after three or four days, the few are going away and they are back to normal, so it is a temporary situation."

A number horses were scratched from today's races because they were deemed unfit to run by the vet. It is understood that over 100 horses have been affected by this virus.
