No disciplinary action against Gayle
CHRIS GAYLE will face no disciplinary action for his YouTube rant on April 27 as the PJ Patterson-chaired Caribbean Premier League Tournament Committee has accepted a statement that Gayle has issued regarding the matter.
On May 6, the CPL Tournament Committee received a formal complaint from the CPL alleging breaches of its Tournament Rules & Regulations by Gayle, arising from a series of videos where Gayle lambasted the Jamaica Tallawahs management following his non-retention for the 2020 edition.
A three-member tribunal was about to be set up to hear the matter but successful efforts were made to settle the charges, with Gayle acting in good faith by providing a statement which was accepted by all the parties involved – the CPL, Cricket West Indies and Gayle himself.
In his statement, the 40-year-old Gayle said he made the videos with one intention, and that was to explain to the fans in Jamaica the reasons behind what has now become his second departure from the Tallawahs franchise.
FROM THE HEART
The ‘Universe Boss’ said he was standing by his statements which he mentioned came from the heart.
He also made said that it was his greatest wish to finish his CPL career in Jamaica.
Gayle, however, added that portions of his comments may have been viewed as being damaging to Cricket West Indies, and to the CPL Tournament but it was never his intention to damage the T20 Tournament.
Following the statement, the Caribbean Premier League Tournament Committee, the CPL and CWI have now considered the matter closed.
In the videos posted on his YouTube channel Gayle was highly critical of Ramnaresh Sarwan, his former West Indies teammate, describing him as a “snake” and accusing him of conspiring to get him released from the franchise. Gayle also claimed that the Tallawahs management had been “playing games” with him, and had cut him from the squad without any notice, although he still had two more years left in the three-year contract and had agreed to a pay cut.
Sarwan subsequently said the allegations were false and scandalous while the Tallawahs said the decision not to retain the T20 batting star did not include Sarwan and was “based purely on business and cricketing reasoning”.
