National Amateur Champion William Knibbs won his second title since golf restarted locally. He claimed the two-day Emancipendence Classic at the Caymanas Golf course on Sunday.

The overnight leader, Knibbs had a better day two to move away from the field and eventually claimed the title by three shots in the zero to six men’s category.

After carding a five-over-par 77 on day one, Knibbs put in a steady shift to shoot a two-over 74 for a total of 151.

Mark Newnham also held on to his overnight second position and finished with a second-round four-over-par 76 for a two-day total of 154.

Sean Morris also had a better second round as his 79 on day two allowed him to finish with a two-day total of 160 to round out the top three.

Knibbs played cautious golf on the front nine, which included eight pars and one birdie on the par-five sixth hole to make the turn one under.

Despite a birdie on the par-four 14th hole, Knibbs gave shots back with bogeys on holes 11 and 13 and finished up with a double bogey on the troublesome 18th and final hole on the course.

Despite what he felt was a disappointing finish, Knibbs was pleased with the win.

“I feel good about the winning the tournament. A win is always a nice feeling," he said. "The conditions were not much different on Saturday compared to Sunday. It may have been slightly less windy. Overall, I managed the conditions better.”

Knibbs is expected to turn his attention to the Jamaica Open Championship, which is set to take place in December.
