President Wayne Shaw says the Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) will announce an international sponsor for its youth programmes for the 2021 season as they are ready to continue the development of young footballers.

The association is still looking at developing its youth programmes although the Ministry of Health & Wellness (MOHW) has not yet granted approval of protocols amid the COVID-19 pandemic for football to resume locally.

“We have been working and we going to have a press conference early next month to disclose some international sponsors for our programmes,” Shaw explained. “We have been working. We are not just sitting down and waiting for COVID to go away.”

Shaw hopes the start of the National Premier League will be the catalyst for the resumption of all forms of the game locally as KSAFA will use aspects of the nation’s top-flight proposal to the MOHW as it plans to start its season in January.

“They have to start with the Premier League that they move to the other leagues,” he said. “KSAFA do not have any football scheduled until January. Once the Premier League gets the green light, then the Super League, Major League, and the youth competitions will follow.”

The National Premier League moved one step closer to restarting after the MOHW made recommendations to its health protocols on Tuesday.

Jamaica Football Federation General Secretary Dalton Wint said that the MOHW could give approval as soon as next week as football administrators will be working to implement the recommendations from the health officials.

The 2020-21 National Premier League season is set to start on November 14.
