Jockey Shane Ellis says he is aiming to make his return to the saddle with a bang on the nine-race card at Caymanas Park today. Ellis will be making his comeback after almost three months out with a fractured collarbone, after falling from his mount during exercise in November of last year. Ellis, who rode 36 winners last year, told The Gleaner that he is delighted to be back in the saddle.

“It feels very good to be back because a journeyman like me, not riding for over two months was a little bit frustrating seeing the other jockeys going out riding and I could not do so,” he said. “I am glad that I am well and injury-free now and ready to carry on my career, because this is what I love doing.”

Ellis said that he will be taking it one step at a time on each day as he makes his way back to competitive riding.

“I told my agent that I didn’t want too many rides [today] because I am not fully fit as yet. So I don’t want to rush into anything on my first day of returning to the saddle,” he said.

COMING OUT WICKED

“I have good chances on my two mounts on Saturday and on Sunday. I have some good rides, and so I have promised my fans that I will be coming out and coming out wicked. So Shane Ellis is going to give it his best on Saturday and Sunday.

“For this season, I am just focussing on winning as many races as possible. If I am riding in 10 races, then I am aiming to win all 10 races.”

Ellis, who has ridden over 1,000 winners at Caymanas Park, has secured two rides on the nine-race card today. He has also secured four rides on the 10-race programme for tomorrow.
