England’s Rose claims Goerge HoSang Trophy
ENGLAND’S ROSE turned back challenges from VICTORY TURN and SEA SWAN to easily land the George HoSang Trophy at five and a half furlongs, closing yesterday’s 11-race card.
The speedy four-year-old filly, a full sister to retired champion mare SHE’S A MANEATER, notched her second straight victory, her sixth career win from 10 starts, in her usual blazing front-running style, chasing VICTORY TURN and SEA SWAN off the lead in an opening quarter of 22.4.
Leaving SEA SWAN treading water at the top of the lane, ENGLAND’S ROSE won unchallenged ahead of CRYPTOCURRENCY, who charged late to win the battle for second ahead of eight-year-old CHACE THE GREAT.
After settling a cracking half-mile split of 45.3 with Anthony Thomas along for the ride, ENGLAND’S ROSE stopped the clock in 1:07.1, nothing to write home about in graduating to open allowance, but the damage was already done against inferior sprinters.
Meanwhile, journeyman trainer Lawrence Freemantle enjoyed one of his better days saddling a three-timer - BIGBROWNGREYHOPE, MR LYNDHURST, and DEE DANGER - in the second, fifth, and eighth races, respectively.
Last season’s champion claiming jockey, Oshane Nugent, continued his good form, booting home two of Freemantle’s winners, MR LYNDHURST and DEE DANGER.
Nugent’s third win was aboard Ian Parsard’s DEJAE’S BOY in the sixth.
