Waterhouse Football Club head coach Marcel Gayle has praised Dairy Industries for coming to their rescue for the Easter holidays, after the company contributed Tastee Cheese supplies, valued at over $150,000 to the club at Dairy Industries’ headquarters on Washington Boulevard in Kingston yesterday.

Gayle says the club and players have been affected financially by the coronavirus pandemic and they were anticipating a bleak Easter holidays.

However, he describes the gesture from Dairy Industries, the club’s main sponsor for over 20 years, as a silver lining in a dark cloud.

“It is dark times and I really thank Dairy for rescuing us like this,” Gayle said at the presentation. We know other clubs are feeling the strain just like Waterhouse, as football is our livelihood.

“Dairy has been the main sponsor of the club for as long as I can remember and they are still with us and going strong, especially at this time when COVID is wreaking havoc.

“So we really appreciate it and this can go a far way, all the way from the juniors to the senior team, and their families.

“But all of the other clubs are feeling the financial burden. So if corporate Jamaica can give back to these clubs, they should, because right now things are really bad.” he added.

GOOD EASTER CHEER

Dairy Industries Brand Manager Dionne Henry said the intention is to give the club some good Easter cheer. She said being the club’s main sponsor for over two decades, the company felt compelled to give the club and community positive cheer at a time when morale and finances are low.

“We want to share with the Waterhouse Football Club, and the community in the time of Easter,” she said. “In these challenging times, we still want people to remember the Easter season and participate in it, and this is why we are here contributing pieces of cheese to the club. We’re ensuring that the Waterhouse Football Club and the community enjoy their Easter.”

Henry says that the relationship has been mutually beneficial and will continue to be for some time to come.

“We have been there through the highs and the lows and this is a particular low, and we are still here,” she said. “So we are saying to the community and the club that we are still committed to you despite all the challenges we are facing. We are here and we will always be here.

“Unfortunately, we are not able to do some of the activities that we normally do when the club has home matches. But whenever that starts, we will be right here and raring to go.”
