SDC T20 moving smoothly

Twenty-six matches will be played across 13 venues in the round-robin phase of the Social Development Commission (SDC) Twenty20 Community Cricket competition today.
In the feature double-header at the Sir P Oval, Treadlight, Clarendon, Longville Park will battle Milk River at 9 a.m. before Four Paths entertain Racecourse at 1 p.m.
Meanwhile, in another double-header at the UWI Bowl, Meadowbrook Lions will face Eastwood Park/Molynes at 9 a.m. before Rollington Town oppose Richmond Park/Half-Way Tree at 1 p.m.
Terrence Richards, senior programmes coordinator of the SDC, said since the competition began on the May 26 it has been moving smoothly.
“The competition has been moving smoothly based on the protocols that we have employed at each venue and so once persons come in they are temperature checked at the gate and then they are sanitised,” said Richards.
There are sanitisation stations around the grounds and places where people can wash their hands on a regular basis,” he said. “We also sanitise the playing area and areas that people are likely to touch and that is one every half an hour,” Richards said.
COVID PROTOCOLS ARE BEING FOLLOWED
He underscored that all the match venues are closely monitored by the authorities on a regular basis and there are no reports of anyone breaking the COVID-19 protocols, so far.
“At the start of the competition no spectators were allowed and people adhered to those protocols and now that we are allowing limited number of spectators people are still sticking to the rules,” said Richards.
“We want to commend players and communities for adhering to the rules that have been established,” he said. St Mary’s Gayle Cricket Club are the defending champions of the SDC Twenty20 Community Cricket title having won the last staging of the competition in 2019.
