O’NEIL THOMAS, coach of 2019 beaten daCosta Cup finalists, Dinthill Technical, says that they have assembled a talented bunch of players who can go all the way and win this year’s title.

Dinthill Technical, who are based in St Catherine, were beaten 3-1 in the 2019 final by Clarendon College.

In fact, they last won the daCosta Cup title in 1981.

Thomas said that they are very determined to break that title drought this season, and he is optimistic that his players will do well.

“I think we have the team to win the zone and go further, because we did well in all our practice games and the aim is to move from strength to strength,” said Thomas.

“The aim is to at least win two cups because, for the last seven years, we have been very consistent and I think this year we can go further and win the daCosta Cup,” he observed.

Dinthill are scheduled to face York Castle in the opening game of the competition on Saturday.

The veteran coach pointed out that they have only retained two players from their 2019 team but, despite this, his players have shown ability in their practice games.

“This is a relatively new team and we are preparing with a team of mostly Under-16 players, along with two senior players from 2019. So it is a work in progress but I am very upbeat about their chances entering this season,” Thomas said.

“We have some good players who we are working with in training and we can do whatever we want to do, based on the skill set of these players,” he said.

“They have been improving from the time we started and, as we move along, they will get better and we will be a force to be reckoned with in the competition,” Thomas noted.
