STETHS, BB Coke play out stalemate
WESTERN BUREAU:
A CAGEY affair between St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) and reigning Ben Francis Cup champions B.B. Coke High saw them play out a 0-0 draw in their Inter-Secondary Schools' Sports Association (ISSA) daCosta Cup football match at the STETHS Sports Complex in Santa Cruz yesterday.
It was obvious that both teams, who are favourites to get out of the group, did not want to lose to the other and it led to a tactical battle between the coaches.
Omar 'Rambo' Wedderburn, coach of STETHS, said his boys executed the game plan, but was disappointed in not getting all three points.
"Honestly, the intention was to get all three points but all in all, it was a nice, competitive game. The game was a tactical and patient one, you could see that both teams had a plan. However I'm not comfortable nor pleased because the aim was for all three points no matter the circumstance," Wedderburn assessed.
"In the first half, we allowed them to come out and then press them above the penalty arc. In the second half we pressed them even higher, which at times produced some good play and from those spells we could have gotten a goal. We executed our game plan, but it's just the goal that was missing," he added.
Kemar Ricketts, coach of B.B. Coke, said he is satisfied with the single point. He does not think any of the teams were scared to lose.
"I don't think it was a cagey game, we played with a good level of confidence. We were a bit patient when we were in possession, we could have passed the ball faster," Ricketts said.
"Yes, it played out 0-0, but you could see what both teams were trying to do," he added. "I think it was a tactical battle between both teams. I think it was an evenly matched game so it was a fair result."
