Paul Hall to take charge of Reggae Boyz

The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) has appointed former assistant coach to the Reggae Boyz, Paul Hall, as head coach for the duration of this World Cup cycle.

Hall’s appointment comes on the back of official word that the JFF Executive Committee has agreed with a recommendation from the organisation’s technical committee that head coach Theodore Whitmore be sacked.

Whitmore’s sacking came on the back of an eight-game Concacaf World Cup qualification run that yielded just seven points, including a 3-0 home loss to Panama.

Hall, who has a UEFA ‘A’ coaching licence, came to the Reggae Boyz as assistant coach earlier this year after having been the Senior Professional Development Coach at Queen’s Park Rangers since 2015.

The former Reggae Boy, who helped the team qualify for its sole berth at a FIFA World Cup back in 1998, takes over a unit that sits sixth in the Concacaf eight-team final round.

The table is led by Canada on 16 points, with the United States following suit on 15, while Mexico and Panama round out the top four with 14 points each. Costa Rica are just ahead of the Reggae Boyz on nine points.

Jamaica now has six remaining games to play catch-up.

The team plays Mexico inside the National Stadium on January 27, 2021, Panama away on the 30th, they are at home to Costa Rica on February 2, the same for El Salvador on March 24, Canada away on March 27, and finally Honduras at home on March 30.

The top three teams from Concacaf qualify automatically to the FIFA World Cup while a playoff berth is in the offing for a fourth-placed team.
