Briana Williams, Britany Anderson join Millrose Games line-ups
TWO OF the country’s most promising young athletes, sprinter Briana Williams and hurdler Britany Anderson, have been added to the line-up at the 114th Millrose Games, scheduled to take place at the Armory New Balance Track and Field Centre in New York on Saturday, January 29.
A double World Under-20 champion and Olympian, Williams, will contest the women’s 60 metres
One of four Jamaicans at the meet, she will face a strong line-up in the event headed by Tokyo Olympic Games 200-metre bronze medallist, Gabby Thomas. Thomas was also a member of the United States’ 4x100-metre relay team which finished second in Tokyo.
Williams, who ran the opening leg for the country’s gold medal-winning 4x100-metre relay team in Tokyo, will also have the likes of English Gardener, Mikiah Briscoe, the fastest in the field with a personal best of 7.04 seconds, and 16-year-old high school sensation, Shawnti Jackson, to contend with. Jackson will be hoping to break the USA high-school record of 7.19 seconds over the event.
60-METRE HURDLES
Anderson, a silver medallist in the 100-metre hurdles at the World Under-20 Championships, will contest the women’s 60-metre hurdles.
Anderson was unfortunate to have hit several hurdles at the Tokyo Olympic Games in the final of the women’s 100-metre hurdles where she ended eighth. She will come up against three of her rivals from that final. They include silver medallist Kendra Harrison of the United States and countrywoman, Gabbi Cunningham, who was seventh in Tokyo, along with the Bahamas’ Devynne Charlton, who was sixth.
Olympians Natoya Goule, who will contest the Women’s 800m, and Omar McLeod, who will contest the men’s 60 metres, will be the two other Jamaicans in action at the meet.
