Khadija Shaw elated with purple patch, Man City perfomances
REGGAE GIRL Khadija Shaw’s slow start to life in England seems well and truly behind her, with the striker scoring her second brace since returning from COVID-19 isolation two weeks ago.
Shaw scored on her return to first-team action for Manchester City in the Continental Cup, before turning up on Saturday with a brace against Nottingham Forest to help send her side into the fifth round of the Women’s FA Cup.
Shaw’s brace, scored in the 34th and 69th minutes of her team’s 8-0 thrashing of Forest on the City Ground, while something she is thrilled with, is also something she is quickly putting behind her.
“Was a good professional performance, dominant display for the girls today,” she said, preferring to talk about the entire team’s exploits.
“Happy to be on the scoresheet again, we got the job done and we move on to the next round.”
City will know their opponents in the fifth round of the FA Cup tomorrow.
OTHER SCORERS
Shaw was joined on the scoresheet by Caroline Weir, who opened the scoring in the second minute, Filippa Angeldahl, who made her mark in the 43rd, a Georgia Stanway hat-trick in the 50th, 71st, and 92nd minutes, and Lauren Hemp, who had scored in the 53rd minute.
The Reggae Girlz’s first came from a set play, the big striker rising highest to head home an Angeldahl corner.
In the second half, Shaw would take advantage of a goalkeeping error, which she finished with aplomb.
That second goal made it 11 goals on the season for Shaw from 16 starts.
