Montego Bay United’s (MBU) head coach, Ricky Hill, says yesterday’s 4-1 victory over Molynes United in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) competition will instil a lot of confidence in his team.

MBU, who were recording their first win of the season from three matches, were led to victory by substitute Ladrick Haughton who scored a double. His goals came in the 80th and 84th minutes. The match was played at the UWI-JFF Captain Horace Burrell Centre of Excellence in St Andrew.

Ewan Barton in the third minute and substitute Michael Nosworthy in the 68th minute were the other scorers for MBU.

Theon Palmer scored for Molynes United who ended the match with 10 men. Tyrique Wilson was sent off in the 74th minute after receiving a straight red card for a dangerous tackle.

“It is a massive relief in terms of confidence for the players,” said Hill.

“I have to congratulate and commend the substitutes because it is not easy to come off the bench and score but everybody played their part in this victory,” he said.

MBU were very quick out of the blocks as they took the lead early when Barton’s long range shot went through the hands of the goalkeeper Roje Williams and into the back of the net.

However, Williams made up for his earlier error, as he quickly denied MBU a two-nil lead when he saved Tevin Shaw’s penalty kick six minutes later.

Molynes United fought their way back into the match when Palmer scored a brilliant 20-yard volley to level the scores at 1-1 at half-time.

Nosworthy sent MBU ahead when he side-footed the ball into the back of the net from a goalmouth melee after the Molynes United defenders had failed to clear their lines.

Haughton then wrapped up the victory for MBU with two well-taken goals in four minutes.

Andre Daley, assistant coach of Molynes United, said his team played very poorly throughout the match.

“Indiscipline cost us the game,” Daley said while adding that “a lot of things happened behind closed doors”.

In the opening match of the double-header at the venue, Kesslon Hall netted a 79th-minute goal to lead Mount Pleasant Academy to 1-0 victory over Vere United.
