Reggae Marathon community saddened by Beckford passing
The Reggae Marathon, Half Marathon & 10K community is saddened by the sudden passing of marathoner and western Jamaica’s senior criminal defence attorney-at-law Morrel Beckford, who fell ill during one of his regular runs.
Beckford participated in the 2021 Virtual Reggae Marathon and completed his run in Negril last December. He was a member of the M&D Boot Camp based in Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland.
“We wish to express our condolences on behalf of the Reggae Marathon team to Mr Beckford’s family and members of his running community in western Jamaica. May his soul rest in peace,” said Alfred ‘Frano’ Francis, race director for the Reggae Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K.
Also paying tribute to Mr Beckford is fellow runner Andrew Gayle, who frequently ran and trained with him.
“Morrel’s passion, commitment and love for road running and boot camp workouts were an inspiration and motivation to many fitness enthusiasts and road runners, especially those in Westmoreland. He always wore a smile and was always excited, like a child, when the next road race was approaching,” said Gayle.
