Jamaica College's Javon Bowen began his school's mission of a comeback at this year's ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls' Athletics Championships earlier today with the preliminary round of the Class One high jump.

The defending champions find themselves firmly in second place behind perennial rivals Kingston College, but they hope to make up some ground in the field, with Bowen carrying that torch.

Bowen secured his spot in tomorrow's high jump final with his leap of two metres counting as the only one to breach the magical mark.

St Elizabeth Technical's Tierick Smith had the second-highest leap, getting over the bar at 1.95, while Verrol Sam of Kingston College finished the round third, though he cleared a similar 1.95.

The boys' Class One high jump takes centrestage inside the National Stadium tomorrow at 6pm.
