Palmer century resurrects Scorpions against Hurricanes

Middle-order batsman Paul Palmer Jr stroked a brilliant and unbeaten century as the Jamaica Scorpions were all out for 302 at the close of day one against the Leeward Islands Hurricanes in their fifth-round West Indies Championship match at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy.

Palmer was left not out on a career-best 144 from 233 balls with lower-order batsman Jamie Merchant chipping in with 55 and wicket-keeper Aldane Thomas, getting 31.

Sheeno Berridge, Rahkeem Cornwall and Colin Archibald all took two wickets each.

Over at the Queens Park Oval, the T&T Red Force ended the day on 203 for nine against the Guyana Harpy Eagles. Opener Jeremy Solozano, top scoring so far with 72. Jason Mohammed made 68. Keemo Paul has, so far, bagged five wickets for 41 runs with Gudakesh Motie taking two wickets.

Over at the Diego Martin Sports Complex, The Barbados Pride were 109 for one, replying to the Windward Islands Volcanoes first innings score of 203.

Raymon Reifer is unbeaten on 56 and with him, his captain Kraigg Brathwaite, is on 39.

Earlier, Ramon Simmons took three wickets for 25 runs to restrict the Volcanoes.

Off-spinner Roston Chase also picked up three wickets, despite 44 from Teddy Bishop and 37 from Larry Edward. The Pride trail the Volcanoes by 94 runs.
