Price takes charge at Calabar

After more than 30 years as a local football coach, Andrew Price will take up his first schoolboy job at Calabar High School when the 2022 season kicks off in September.
Price, the current coach of Jamaica Premier League outfit Humble Lion, will be seeking to make an indelible mark on the Red Hills Road school’s football programme.
“This is my first time coaching at schoolboy level but I have always liked challenges and this is just another challenge in my career.
“I have always dealt with youth, even when I coached senior football I have always groomed and encouraged youngsters once they have the talent and expose them.
“I am just going there to see if I can revamp the programme. The school and I have the same philosophy where we want to develop the youngsters holistically so they can be good players and good students,” the former St George’s College Manning Cup player said.
Price said he has always paid close interest to schoolboy football and he has a three-year plan to bring the school title success.
“I like to look at a three-year programme. We will have to look at rebuilding and try to get the right culture and philosophy in the football programme and that includes the under 14s and under 16s.
Price, who will be assisted by Oniel ‘Bigga’ Thompson, said he intends to take things in stride.
For the next season, Calabar have been drawn in Group A with champions Kingston College and St George’s College and Price declared that the first objective is second-round qualification.
“Anywhere you go, you always want to get silverware. And we would love to bring silverware to Calabar. My team and I are looking to get to work and start training next week.
“We have been drawn in the group of death which will be very competitive and we want to get past the first round. That will be the first target.”
Calabar last won the Manning Cup in 2005. They also won the Walker Cup in 2007.
Under previous coach David Laylor, they failed to make it past the first round last season.
