Many doubted the Jamaica Tallawahs but franchise CEO Jeff Miller said, because of the strong unity within the team, they were able to win their third Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) title.

This unity is what Miller said fuelled the Tallawahs to outclass the Barbados Royals at Providence Stadium, Guyana by eight wickets in the final.

“I think the biggest turnaround is that we had a group of players that were hungry, united, wanted to win, who came together at the right time. We had a great leader in Rovman Powell and it showed in the team’s spirit within the camp. It was something we have never seen before, so I knew from our first practice that we had a group of special players who would give us a chance to win the 2022 championships,” he said.

Miller said this passion and discipline helped the team to play outstandingly throughout the season.

“Any time you can win CPL, it’s a great achievement. Each player was assigned a role and each player followed the instructions. Each player played to the capacity and showed professionalism as a unit, and I think that made the difference with our team,” Miller added.

However, at the start of the competition, many would have criticised the quality of the players in the Tallawahs squad but Miller said the unit showed perseverance in withstanding the pressure.

“We didn’t have the ‘big superstars’, as they would say when the tournament started. But we showed that, when you play together as a unit, you can achieve great things,” Miller said.

He said they have already begun preparations to defend their title next year.

“We would love to keep the unit that we have, but T20 players move around so frequently. I am already on the phone talking to players and I am trying to start the process for next year. We are the champions, the bullseye is going to be on the Tallawahs and it is going to be our job to defend the title and, believe me, we are going to be ready to defend our title in 2023,” Miller said.
