Trinidad and Tobago defeated St Lucia 63-25 for a second impressive win from as many starts in the Americas Netball World Cup Qualifiers at the National Indoor Sports Centre last night.

In their opening match early yesterday, they got the better of Antigua and Barbuda 55-24 to get their campaign off to a winning start.

Trinidad and Tobago’s coach, Kemba Duncan, said the results have been a big boost for her team.

“This would have given the team a lot of confidence. They came into the tournament confident, and I am pleased with the performance they have put forth,” she commented.

“We have no issues at this time, so we will just assess our opponents day by day and maintaining our composure,” she added.

Trinidad took control very early in their second match and raced to a 17-7 lead at the end of the first quarter, and they were comfortably ahead 33-16 at the half-time break.

The Trinidadians continued their dominance into the second half, taking a 48-19 lead at the end of the third period before going on to win the contest by 38 goals.

St Lucia and former Sunshine Girls coach Minneth Reynolds said her players did not fully recover from the morning session.

“The first game we were bad, but the second game, we were flat throughout. We played the last game in the first session and first game in the second session, so the recovery wasn’t there. We were flat throughout,” she said.

In the night’s other game, Cayman Islands rebounded from their 67-27 defeat to Barbados in the morning to stop Grenada.

In other morning games, Grenada defeated St Lucia 53-45, and St Vincent and Grenadines beat United States 51-24.
