Mount Pleasant seek to take advantage of Harbour View slip
WITH A point separating themselves and league leaders Harbour View, Mount Pleasant will hope to take command of the Jamaica Premier League table heading into the new year when they face struggling Molynes United at 3:15 p.m. in the second game of a double-header at the Drax Hall Sports Complex.
The St Ann-based outfit is one of three unbeaten teams this season and are in striking distance of Harbour View, whose 1-1 draw with Cavalier on Monday put them on 15 points.
Mount Pleasant have 14 points from six games and are on a three-game winning streak, which included their 1-0 win over Waterhouse last week in their return from the World Cup break.
Mount Pleasant have remained unbeaten in their last five meetings against Molynes, the most recent being a 3-2 win in May.
While this season’s start has not mimicked last season’s where they won four straight, Mount Pleasant have won four of their first six and could accumulate 17 points just like they did in their last campaign.
Molynes United, on the other hand, while not in the relegation zone just yet, are coming off a 1-0 defeat to Chapelton Maroons, a game in which head coach Alex Thomas lamented the effort from his players. The team, Thomas said, also had a number of injury concerns.
“We have to go back to the drawing board. We were lethargic in a certain way and we have to want it,” Thomas said after last week’s defeat.
“We have to start moving up the table more and start to believe and show more heart and determination.”
Molynes are currently in 10th with six points but are tied on points with Tivoli Gardens, Waterhouse and Chapelton.
The early game of the Drax Hall double-header will see Waterhouse with a chance to make a move up the table with their 1 p.m. clash against Dunbeholden. Waterhouse, who are normally fixtures at the top half of the table, are in unfamiliar territory, having only won one of their last five matches.
