JAMAICAN ACE Leon Bailey collected a ball down the line for Aston Villa, the referee blew his whistle to signal the end of the game, and the winger crumbled to the floor, inconsolable.

The game, an English Premier League encounter between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Bailey’s Villa at Villa Park ended 1-1 after substitute Danny Ings scored in the 78th minute to level things, cancelling out Daniel Podence’s opener in the 12th.

A minute before Bailey’s teammates had to physically help him from the pitch, the winger collected a long ball and got past Wolves’ goalkeeper José Sá but shot wide when it looked easier to score.

Earlier, Ings, the hero on the night, split two defenders and ran on to a ball over the top from Tyrone Mings before beating Sá.

Podence scored early for Wolverhampton, which would have moved out of the bottom three with a victory.

The Portuguese winger slipped past Douglas Luiz and curled a left-footed shot into the far corner past goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, back in the starting line-up after helping Argentina win the World Cup.

Matheus Nunes then had a chance to double the lead, but Martinez charged out and saved a low shot with his right leg.

In the day’s other games, Harry Kane scored a brace at Crystal Palace to help his side to a 4-0 victory, while Nottingham Forest won their first away game, clipping fellow relegation contenders Southampton, 1-0. Leeds and West Ham United played to a thrilling 2-2 draw with Wilfried Gnonto and Rodrigo Moreno getting on the scoresheet for the hosts at Elland Road. West Ham got their goals from Lucas Paqueta and Gianluca Scamacca. Jamaican international Michail Antonio’s goal drought has continued. Antonio has got on to the scoresheet just twice this season.

Action in the English Premier League continues today with Chelsea welcoming Manchester City to Stamford Bridge.
