Jackson struggles in first 60-metre of the season

JAMAICA’S SHERICKA Jackson failed to make the final of the 60 metres in her first outing over the distance at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Boston.

Jackson, running in heat two, found herself in the middle of a crack field, finishing fifth in 7.34 seconds behind the trio of Mikiah Brisco, (7.15), Kayla White (7.21), and Melissa Jefferson (7.25), as well as Anthonique Strachan of the Bahamas (7.32).

The interest in the battle against another American, 400-metre world record holder, Sydney McLaughlin-Leverone, never materialised, as she two was dumped from her first-round heat, clocking 7.33 seconds for fifth place.

McLaughlin-Leverone’s heat was won by the United States’ Aleia Hobbs in 7.08 seconds. Hobbs was followed into the final by countrywomen, Celera Barnes (7.21), Kiara Parker (7.22), and Candace Hill (7.25).

Hobbs would go on to win the final in 7.02 seconds, with Brisco (7.10), and Barnes (7.21), closing out the top three positions.

Strachan finished out of the running in 7.40.
