DESPITE A slow start to life in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL), Brazilian coach Clovis de Oliveira remains confident the Chapelton Maroons will survive relegation from the league.

The Clarendon club sits at the bottom of the table on three points after they were docked six points for their no-show on January 22 against Mount Pleasant.

The club then parted ways with coach Lenworth Hyde, who won them promotion to the JPL, and hired Oliveira, the former Reggae Boyz coach, in his place.

However, after two outings, Oliveira is still to pick up a point. Nevertheless, he believes they just need to get a good result to turn their season around.

“We have to have the confidence (to stay in the league). That is why I am here. Before I made the agreement with president Mike (Michael Scott), I knew the situation.

“But I have confidence. I know the reality. I try to work with the players, look in their faces and try to show them how difficult it is going to be.

“But we got a chance and we tried to put their confidence higher and soon we are going to get there. We just need to score that one goal and get that result and, from there, I am sure we are going to survive,” he said.

In his two matches thus far, de Oliveira has lost 1-0 to fellow strugglers Faulkland and defending champions Harbour View.

Despite creating good chances in those matches, the team failed to score, but the Brazilian insists he is constantly seeking solutions and hopes to get it right against Tivoli Gardens in his third game on Monday.

“I am always seeking solutions and we are trying in the practice and also in the games.

“We have in that position very young talented players, so let’s see. Hopefully, the next game we are going to find the one and put the ball in the net,” the Chapelton Maroons coach said.

He added that they will not lose confidence, even if they lose on Monday. However, he acknowledged that they need to start picking up results fast.

“We need the results every time. Each second, each minute of the day, week. We need a result. You can do a nice project and do a nice practice training but the result is not what you want. So we are seeking for that,” he said.
